It’s very difficult trying to write anything about this city. I have heard many people who have described it as being badly designed, convoluted, dirty, chaotic and even dangerous.
However most people who spend sometime in this city-harbour cannot help but being facinated by this colourful place.
I have visited Valparaíso many times and I think it’s by far Chile’s most interesting city. It’s full of personality with it’s unique architecture, great restaurants, pubs, uniquely placed hotels and blossoming art galleries.
I hope the pictures in this post convey some of the vibrancy that I, like many people, feel when visiting the “Pearl of the Pacific”.
I managed to complete another issue of Citysphere. This time I feature the wonderful Chilean city-harbour of Valparaíso, a World heritage Centre. I hope you like it.
I thought I was never going to bring myself to publish a second issue, but here it is. More images from the urban environment, this time featuring three cities around the world.
Coming soon, Citysphere, the Paris issue.
My friend Francisco Larrea told me that there’s nothing more urban than an underground train. He said that this means of transportation, in a way, summarizes city life. I tend to agree with this view, underground trains are usually crowded, stuffy and very hectic, but at the same time lively and full of character.
This gallery shows impressions of the Santiago underground, or simply, “el Metro”.
I always take an opportunity to take pictures of the sea, especially when the weather is not very friendly.
The pictures in this gallery were taken on a nearby beach, in the mouth of the river Bio-Bio, the largest in Chile. The sea was choppy and very dramatic; I think these images convey that idea.
